SERVICES

Personalised care plans for women

Our clinic can provide you with a comprehensive assessment and an individualised treatment plan, supporting you to manage the physical and emotional challenges associated with this stage of your life.

Over a number of appointments our team will discuss with you: lifestyle modification, diet, exercise, hormone replacement therapy, non-hormonal forms of treatment and talk with you on how you can manage your symptoms and live a healthy life.

Initial appointment

Your first appointment will be with the practice nurse who will work through a health and wellness questionnaire with you. This is to better understand your history, your current challenges, order some key blood tests and review any recent screening results.

Extended consult with our doctors

Your nurse will then arrange your booking for an extended appointment with one of our doctors/nurse practitioners with special interest in Menopause: Dr Poracchia, NP Hastie or Dr Smith. Your clinician will spend time with you to understand your needs and goals, discuss a range of options and develop a management plan to meet them.

Back on Track Physio

QMC is partnering with Back on Track Physio as part of this offering. We will refer you on and handover to a physio who specialises in strength and conditioning for menopausal women. She will arrange a plan with you that suits your lifestyle and needs - supporting you to avoid injury and optimise strength and fitness.

During menopause our bone density will reduce by around 10% , muscle mass loss speeds up, and as many as 71% of perimenopausal women will suffer from joint and muscle pain – all of this contributing to us being LESS active at a crucial time in our lives where we need to be doing MORE.  At the same time we are bombarded with conflicting information on the internet, and it can be difficult to work out how to get started. But it’s not all doom and gloom.  Back On Track have put together a package to help you with the physical symptoms and have you thriving through menopause.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know if I am menopausal?

Each woman's journey is different. The average age of menopause is 51 years but it is possible to enter the menopause earlier than this.

Hormonal changes cause menopausal symptoms, and many people will have these symptoms as early as 10 years prior to periods stopping completely. This stage is referred to as perimenopause.

Is my mood affected by menopause or perimenopause?

Yes, it can be. Many women report feeling anxious or less tolerant of stress than they used to be. This can be unsettling. Talking this though with our doctors as part of the Menopause Clinic will enable you to discuss your symptoms and work towards solutions.

Where can I learn more about symptoms?

The gold standard is to have an individualized consult as part of our Menopause Clinic as each and every woman will experience menopause differently. However there are generic resources available on Australasian Menopause Society, Menopause and Wellness and International Menopause Society websites
